Pestisect Pest Control

Bird Removal in Mississauga

Mississauga has two distinct bird problems, and which one you have depends entirely on where you live.

If you live in a condo tower around Square One or City Centre, you have a pigeon problem. They’ve decided your balcony is their new roosting site, and their highly acidic droppings are ruining your outdoor space and creating a severe respiratory health hazard.

If you live in a detached home in Erin Mills, Meadowvale, or Streetsville, you likely have a European Starling problem. Starlings push open the flimsy plastic flaps on your exterior exhaust vents and build massive nests inside your ductwork, creating a major fire hazard and pushing humid air back into your home.

Pestisect handles both. We provide humane bird removal and permanent exclusion across Mississauga. We clean the guano, sanitize the area, install professional balcony netting for condos, and fit heavy-duty steel covers over residential vents.

For Pigeons

The Condo Problem: Pigeons on Balconies

Mississauga’s skyline has exploded in the last decade, creating an artificial cliff face that rock pigeons find irresistible. They seek sheltered, elevated ledges to roost and nest.

The Danger of Pigeon Guano: Pigeon droppings aren’t just ugly. They are highly acidic and will corrode concrete balcony slabs, pit aluminum railings, and destroy outdoor furniture. More importantly, dried guano turns to dust. If you sweep it up, you can inhale Histoplasma fungal spores, which cause a severe respiratory disease called histoplasmosis.

Our Pigeon Solution:

1. Bio-Hazard Cleanup: We use specialized respirators and biocides to safely remove the guano, nests, and debris, sanitizing the entire balcony.
2. Exclusion Netting: The only 100% effective way to stop pigeons on a balcony is physical exclusion. We install professional, UV-stabilized, low-visibility polyethylene netting across the entire balcony opening. The netting is black and virtually invisible from the ground or inside the unit. You keep your view; the pigeons stay out.
3. Bird Spikes: For ledges or AC units where netting isn’t viable, we install stainless steel bird spikes to prevent landing.

bird Suburban

The Suburban Problem: Starlings in Vents

Mississauga’s suburban homes (especially those built from the 1990s onward) feature builder-grade plastic exhaust vent covers. The flaps are meant to open when the fan is on and close when it’s off. European Starlings easily pry these open and stuff the vent full of twigs, grass, and mud.

The Dangers of Vent Nests:

  • Fire Hazard: A starling nest in a dryer vent completely blocks the exhaust, causing lint to back up and the dryer to overheat.
  • Mold Hazard: A nest in a bathroom vent forces hot, humid air back into your home, leading to mold growth in your attic or walls.
  • Bird Mites: Starling nests are infested with microscopic, blood-sucking bird mites. When the baby birds leave the nest, the mites migrate into your bathroom looking for a new host.

Our Vent Exclusion Solution:

  1. Manual Extraction: We pull the entire nest out from the exterior vent. (Never turn on the fan to try and blow it out—you will burn out the motor).
  2. Sanitization: We treat the ductwork to neutralize odours and kill bird mites.
  3. Steel Covers: We leave the internal flap for airflow but install a custom-fitted, 16-gauge PVC-coated galvanized steel mesh cover over the entire exterior vent. Birds can never get back in.

Mississauga Neighbourhood Bird Patterns

Square One, City Centre, Hurontario Corridor

High-density condo towers. Pigeon roosting on balconies and ledges is the dominant issue. Balcony netting installation is our most requested service here.

Erin Mills, Churchill Meadows, Meadowvale

Suburban homes with plastic vent covers. Starlings nesting in bathroom and dryer vents peak in April and May. Preventative screening of all house vents is highly recommended.

Port Credit, Clarkson

A mix of older homes and mid-rise buildings. We see both pigeon issues on the mid-rises and sparrow/starling issues in the aging soffits and vents of the older homes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Mississauga condo board allow me to put up bird netting?
Yes, almost all condo boards in Mississauga not only allow but encourage professional bird netting. Pigeon guano causes expensive damage to the building’s concrete infrastructure. However, boards require the netting to be professional-grade, tightly installed, and low-visibility (usually black). We work directly with Mississauga property managers to ensure our installations meet all condo bylaws.
No. European Starlings, House Sparrows, and Pigeons are invasive, non-native species. They are not protected under the Migratory Birds Convention Act. Because a blocked vent is a severe fire hazard, we can legally remove the nest, including eggs or babies, immediately.
Pigeons have strong homing instincts. If they have nested on your balcony once, they consider it their territory and will return constantly. Cleaning the droppings removes the mess, but it doesn’t solve the problem. Only physical exclusion (like netting or spikes) will stop them permanently.
Vent Nest Removal & Exclusion: Typically $250–$350 per vent. This includes nest extraction, duct sanitization (for mites), and the installation of a heavy-duty steel cover. Condo Balcony Netting: Varies based on the size of the balcony and the amount of guano cleanup required prior to installation. Typical ranges are $400–$800+.
Generally, no. Standard Ontario home and condo insurance policies typically exclude damage caused by “vermin, rodents, or pests.” You are responsible for the removal and any repairs needed. Prompt action is the best way to minimize damage costs.
