Bird Removal in Brampton

In Brampton’s sprawling suburban subdivisions, the bird problem usually doesn’t involve pigeons on a high-rise balcony. It involves starlings stuffing three feet of twigs, dry grass, and mud into your bathroom exhaust vent.

European Starlings are cavity nesters. The builder-grade plastic vent covers on the side of most Brampton homes have flimsy flaps that are supposed to open when the fan is on and close when it’s off. Starlings easily push these flaps open and build massive nests inside the ductwork.

A blocked vent is a serious problem. A blocked dryer vent is a major fire hazard. A blocked bathroom vent forces humid air back into your home, leading to mold in your attic or walls.

Pestisect provides humane bird removal and permanent exclusion for Brampton homeowners. We extract the nest, sanitize the ductwork to eliminate bird mites, and install heavy-gauge steel covers so they can never get back in.

The Primary Culprits in Brampton

European Starlings

European Starlings (The Vent Nesters)

The number one bird complaint in Brampton. Starlings actively seek out bathroom, kitchen, and dryer vents on the sides of homes.

The Signs: You’ll hear loud scratching and fluttering noises coming from your bathroom fan. You’ll see bird droppings streaming down the siding directly below the exterior vent.

The Danger: Fire hazards from blocked dryer vents, mold from blocked bathroom vents, and secondary infestations of bird mites (tiny biting insects that live in the nest).

House Sparrows

Smaller than starlings, sparrows exploit tiny gaps in soffits, behind eavestroughs, or inside decorative architectural features on newer Brampton homes. They build messy nests that block gutters and attract other pests.
Pigeons

Pigeons

While less common in residential Brampton than in downtown Toronto, pigeons are a major nuisance for commercial plazas and industrial buildings along the Steeles and Queen Street corridors. They roost on rooftop HVAC units and ledges, creating highly acidic droppings that corrode building materials.

Guano Cleanup:

  1. Professional removal of accumulated droppings using biocides to prevent the spread of Histoplasma fungal spores.
  2. Spike Installation: Stainless steel bird spikes installed on ledges, parapets, and HVAC units to prevent landing and roosting.

Our Bird Removal & Exclusion Process

Legal Note: Under the Migratory Birds Convention Act, many native bird species are protected. However, European Starlings, House Sparrows, and Pigeons are invasive species. Their nests can be legally removed at any time of year, even if there are eggs or babies present.

For Birds in Vents (Starlings & Sparrows)

Nest Extraction

We use specialized tools to manually pull the entire nest out from the exterior vent. We do not push it inward, and you should never turn on the fan to try and blow it out (this will burn out your fan motor).

Sanitization

Bird nests are breeding grounds for bacteria and bird mites. We apply a sanitizing agent inside the vent pipe to neutralize odours and kill parasites.

Steel Exclusion

The original plastic vent flap failed. We leave the flap (for airflow) but install a custom-fitted, 16-gauge PVC-coated galvanized steel mesh cover over the entire vent assembly. Air escapes; birds do not.

The Bird Mite Danger

If you hear birds in your vent, the nest itself is only half the problem. Starlings carry bird mites microscopic, blood-sucking parasites. As long as the baby birds are in the nest, the mites feed on them.

Once the babies fledge and leave the nest, tens of thousands of starving bird mites are left behind. They will migrate down the vent pipe, through your bathroom fan grating, and into your home looking for a new blood meal. You will see them as tiny moving specks on your bathroom ceiling or walls.

This is why prompt professional removal is critical. If you wait for the birds to leave on their own, you will almost certainly be dealing with a bird mite infestation next.

Brampton Neighbourhood Bird Patterns

Mount Pleasant, Credit Valley, Springdale

Newer subdivisions with thousands of builder-grade plastic vent covers. Starlings target these neighbourhoods heavily in the spring (April–June). Preventative screening of all vents on the house is highly recommended.

Heart Lake, Sandringham

Older homes with mature trees. Sparrows nesting in aging, deteriorating soffits or behind eavestroughs are common.

Bramalea, Steeles Corridor

Commercial and industrial zones. Pigeon roosting on flat roofs and loading docks. Commercial spike and netting installations are the primary focus here.

Frequently Asked Questions

The birds in my Brampton home's vent have babies. Can you remove them?
Yes. European Starlings and House Sparrows are introduced, invasive species. They are not protected under wildlife conservation laws. Because a blocked vent is a severe fire and mold hazard, we can and will legally remove the nest, including any eggs or babies, immediately.
We don’t recommend it. Chicken wire has holes large enough for smaller birds to squeeze through, and it rusts quickly. More importantly, if you install it improperly, it can trap lint (in a dryer vent) and create an even worse fire hazard. We use specific, code-compliant galvanized steel mesh designed for exhaust vents.
If the scratching is in the main attic space (not localized to the bathroom fan duct), it is almost certainly a squirrel or a mouse, not a bird. Starlings nest in the ductwork itself. Squirrels will enter the main attic. We inspect the exterior to confirm the entry point and the species.
Typical vent nest removal ranges from $250 to $350. This includes the complete manual extraction of the nest, sanitization of the duct to prevent bird mites, and the installation of a heavy-duty steel exclusion cover. Preventative screening of other, non-infested vents is quoted separately at a lower per-vent rate.
Generally, no. Most Ontario home insurance policies have strict exclusions for damage caused by “vermin, rodents, or insects,” and birds are often grouped into these exclusions. Prompt removal is the most cost-effective way to prevent damage.
