Pestisect Pest Control

Mosquito Control in Mississauga

Mississauga has a geographic mosquito problem that most other GTA suburbs don’t face at the same scale.

The Credit River runs north-to-south through the middle of the city. Its floodplain, wetlands, and riparian edges produce massive mosquito populations from May through September. Etobicoke Creek cuts through Malton. Cooksville Creek runs through the city’s centre. And the Lake Ontario waterfront creates humidity-driven mosquito pressure along the entire southern edge.

All of these natural water systems are great for the city’s green character. They’re terrible for backyard barbecues.

Pestisect provides mosquito control across all of Mississauga breeding site elimination plus barrier spray treatment for residential and commercial properties. Seasonal programs keep your yard usable from May through September.

Mosquito source

Mississauga's Mosquito Sources

Credit River Corridor

The Credit River and Credit Valley Conservation lands produce the highest concentration of mosquitoes in Mississauga. The river's slow-moving pools, marshy edges, and seasonal flooding create breeding habitat at an industrial scale. Properties in Streetsville, Erindale, Meadowvale, and along the Credit River trail are in the primary drift zone mosquitoes from the river reach homes within 1–3 km of the water.

Lake Ontario Waterfront

Port Credit, Lakeview, and Clarkson deal with humidity-driven mosquito pressure. Lake effect moisture keeps the air humid in summer, and standing water in waterfront parks, marinas, and low-lying areas provides breeding sites.

SWM Ponds and Suburban Development

Like Brampton, Mississauga's newer communities (Churchill Meadows, Lisgar, western Meadowvale) have storm water management ponds. These retention features collect runoff and maintain shallow water edges ideal mosquito habitat.

Etobicoke Creek (Malton area)

The creek corridor through Malton produces mosquitoes that affect surrounding residential and commercial areas.

Our Treatment Process

Our Treatment Approach

Pestisect uses a systematic approach to ensure effective mosquito control.

Breeding Site Elimination

Property-wide inspection for standing water: clogged gutters, plant saucers, low lawn areas, pool covers, decorative water features without circulation, French drain endpoints. We eliminate what we can and provide a maintenance list.

Barrier Spray

Residual spray applied to all vegetation, fence lines, under-deck areas, garden borders, and shaded zones where mosquitoes rest during daylight. Effective for 21–30 days per application.

Seasonal Program

Monthly treatments May through September (5 applications). Properties near the Credit River or waterfront get the most value from seasonal programs — the external mosquito pressure from nearby water sources is continuous, so consistent treatment is the only way to maintain control.

Mississauga Neighbourhood Mosquito Guide

Streetsville, Erindale

Highest mosquito pressure — Credit River adjacency. Seasonal programs strongly recommended.

Port Credit, Lakeview, Clarkson

Waterfront humidity plus marina and park breeding sites. Summer evening pressure is significant.

Meadowvale, Churchill Meadows, Lisgar

SWM ponds and conservation area proximity. Homes backing onto these features see above-average mosquito activity.

Erin Mills

Established landscaping with dense vegetation provides mosquito resting habitat. Barrier spray on property vegetation is effective.

Square One, City Centre

Less residential mosquito pressure (fewer yards), but condo balcony and rooftop patio mosquito complaints do occur. Building-level solutions vary.

Malton

Etobicoke Creek proximity. Older properties with aging drainage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are mosquitoes so bad near the Credit River?
The Credit River’s slow pools, marshy edges, and seasonal flooding create large-scale mosquito breeding habitat. Mosquitoes can fly 1–3 km from breeding sites, putting thousands of Mississauga homes in the drift zone. Properties within 500 metres of the river or its associated conservation lands experience the highest pressure.
Credit Valley Conservation and Peel Region conduct targeted larviciding in public stormwater infrastructure and catch basins when West Nile Virus surveillance indicates elevated risk. This does not protect private properties. Barrier spray on your own property is the only way to reduce mosquitoes in your yard.
Our barrier spray is applied only to residential vegetation on your property — never to waterways, wetlands, or conservation land. The products we use break down within 30 days and are applied at rates designed to minimize environmental impact. We do not treat within the Credit Valley Conservation regulated area.
Yes. Peel Public Health monitors mosquito pools for West Nile Virus annually. Positive pools are detected in Mississauga most years. While human cases are uncommon, the risk is real — particularly for elderly residents and those with weakened immune systems. Reducing mosquito exposure around your home is a practical precaution.
May. Mosquito breeding begins at sustained temperatures above 10°C. First-generation mosquitoes in May produce second-generation mosquitoes in June — by starting early, you prevent exponential population growth. Waiting until July means you’re playing catch-up.
