Pestisect Pest Control

Wasp Removal in Toronto

A wasp nest near your front door isn’t something you tolerate until it goes away on its own. It won’t. A colony that starts with a single queen in May grows to 5,000–10,000 workers by August. Every week you wait, the nest gets bigger, the wasps get more aggressive, and removal gets more complicated. Toronto’s mix of mature trees, aging rooflines, and outdoor dining culture means wasp calls peak from June through October. We handle them all — paper wasps under deck railings, yellowjackets in ground burrows, and bald-faced hornets in tree branches and soffits. Pestisect removes wasp nests across all Toronto neighbourhoods. Same-day emergency service available for nests near entrances, playgrounds, and patios.

Bees & Wasps Found in Toronto

Wasp Species in Toronto

Wasp and bee infestations are a common issue in Toronto, especially during the warmer months when these insects become highly active. While bees play an important role in pollination, their presence near residential or commercial spaces can pose serious risks. Wasps, on the other hand, are more aggressive and territorial, making them dangerous when nests are located close to human activity.

Paper wasp control

Paper Wasps (Polistes spp.)

Open, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves, deck railings, porch ceilings, and windowsills. Colonies of 20–75 workers. Less aggressive unless the nest is disturbed directly. Most common in Toronto residential areas.
Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets (Vespula spp.)

Enclosed nests often underground in old rodent burrows, inside wall cavities, or in hollow trees. Colonies of 1,000–5,000 workers. Highly aggressive near food and nests. The ones that harass your patio dinner are yellowjackets. They’re attracted to protein in June–July and sugars in August–September.

Bald-Faced Hornets (Dolichovespula maculata)

Large grey paper nests, often football-sized, hanging in trees, under eaves, or on building exteriors. Colonies of 200–400 workers. Extremely aggressive when the nest is approached — they can sting repeatedly and will pursue perceived threats for 15+ metres.

wasp activity

Why Toronto Has High Wasp Activity

Mature tree canopy

Toronto's urban forest particularly in the Annex, Rosedale, Forest Hill, and Beach neighbourhoods provides abundant nesting sites for aerial wasps and hornets.

Outdoor dining

Toronto's patio season runs May through October. Open food and sugary drinks attract yellowjackets, especially in August when their diet shifts from protein to sugar. Restaurant patios along King West, Queen West, and the Danforth see the most complaints.

Aging rooflines and soffits

Older Toronto homes have gaps in soffits, fascia boards, and roofline trim that yellowjackets exploit to build nests inside wall cavities. These are the hardest nests to find you see wasps entering a gap in the soffit, but the nest is inside the wall.

Treatment Process

Our Wasp Removal Process

Our wasp and bee control process is designed to deliver safe and long-lasting results. We start with a thorough inspection to identify the species and locate nests. Based on the situation, we apply targeted treatments that eliminate the infestation without causing harm to the surrounding environment.

Identify the species

Different wasps require different approaches. Paper wasp nests are exposed and can be treated directly. Yellowjacket nests may be underground or inside walls. Bald-faced hornet nests require careful approach due to extreme aggression.

Treat the nest

We apply insecticidal dust or spray directly into the nest. For ground nests, we inject dust into the entrance and seal it. For wall-void nests, we inject through the entry hole. For exposed aerial nests, we treat and remove the nest.

Remove or seal

Accessible nests are physically removed after treatment. Wall-void nests are sealed after treatment to prevent secondary pest issues (dead wasps attract carpet beetles and other scavengers).

Same-day resolution

Most wasp calls are resolved in a single visit. We don't set up return appointments for wasps — when we leave, the problem is handled.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is wasp season in Toronto?
Queens emerge in May and start building nests. Colonies grow through June and July, peak in August, and remain active through September. First frost (usually late October in Toronto) kills the colony. Workers and males die; only mated queens survive to overwinter.
We don’t recommend it. Yellowjackets and bald-faced hornets are highly aggressive near their nests. Yellowjackets can sting repeatedly and will swarm. Commercial wasp sprays have limited range (2–3 metres) and often don’t penetrate the nest fully, agitating the colony. Professional treatment is faster, safer, and complete.
Not to the same nest — wasps don’t reuse nests. But queens often select similar sites. If the conditions that attracted the nest still exist (sheltered eave, soffit gap, undisturbed corner), a new queen may build there next year. We seal entry points where possible to reduce repeat nesting.
Yes — especially yellowjackets and hornets. Their stings are painful, and allergic individuals can experience anaphylaxis. Children and pets are at higher risk because they may unknowingly approach or disturb a nest. If someone in your household has a known sting allergy, don’t wait — call for same-day removal.
Yes. We inject insecticidal dust through the entry hole to treat the colony inside the wall void. We do not recommend cutting into the wall to physically remove the nest — the dead nest desiccates naturally and is consumed by scavengers over the winter. We seal the entry hole to prevent reuse.
