Pestisect Pest Control

Wasp & Hornet Nest Removal

By late August, a single wasp or hornet nest in the Greater Toronto Area can house up to 5,000 aggressive, hyper-territorial insects. Do not hit the nest with a broom. Do not spray a hole in your siding. Pestisect provides emergency, safe, and guaranteed wasp and hornet hive removal using professional-grade personal protective equipment and insecticide dust injection technology.

Danger

Understanding the Danger in the GTA

Unlike honey bees, which die after stinging once, wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets have smooth stingers and can strike repeatedly. When the nest is threatened, guard wasps release attack pheromones that literally tag you as a target, triggering the colony to swarm. For individuals with allergies, this creates an immediate, life-threatening anaphylactic emergency.
What is an Attack Pheromone? An attack pheromone is a chemical alarm signal released by a threatened wasp or hornet. When a wasp stings, it leaves this invisible chemical marker on the victim, signaling to all other wasps in the nearby hive to swarm and attack the marked target aggressively.

Industry Fast Facts:

  • A mature Yellow Jacket nest hidden inside a wall void can contain over 5,000 active wasps by late summer.
  • Wasps are predatory insects; they feed their young other insects, but mature workers crave sugar, which is why they swarm your sugary drinks in late August.
  • In Ontario, wasp colonies die off every winter. Only the new queens survive by hibernating, and they will never reuse an old nest

Common species

Common GTA Stinging Insects

Our approach ensures complete eradication, not just temporary relief. We offer two primary solutions based on the severity
of the infestation and your budget.
Best Wasp Exterminator

Yellow Jackets

Highly aggressive. Often build massive nests underground in abandoned rodent burrows or inside the wall voids of homes.
Hornets

Bald-Faced Hornets

Build large, grey, paper-like nests hanging high in trees or attached to roof eaves. Extremely protective of their airspace.
Paper Wasps

Paper Wasps

Build open-comb, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves, deck railings, and soffits. Less aggressive but sting readily if disturbed.

Wasp spray

Why Hardware Store Wasp Sprays Fail (and Are Dangerous)

Hardware store wasp spray requires you to stand within 10-15 feet of the nest and spray a liquid stream.

1

The liquid only kills the wasps currently on the outside of the nest. It rarely reaches the queen deep inside the chamber.

2

If the nest is inside a wall void or under your siding, spraying the exterior entrance causes the wasps to retreat inward. They will quickly chew through your interior drywall to escape the chemicals, flooding your living room or bedroom with thousands of aggressive insects.

The Pestisect Safe Removal Protocol

Our licensed technicians use specialized equipment that the general public cannot access, ensuring the colony is eradicated completely without risk to your family.

Identify and Suit Up

We determine the exact species and location of the nest while donning thick, sting-proof professional apiary suits to protect ourselves from inevitable swarming during treatment.

High-Pressure Dust Injection

For nests located in wall voids, attics, or underground, we use precise injection wands to shoot a professional insecticidal powder directly into the entrance channel.

  • As foraging wasps fly in and out, the static charge on their bodies physically picks up the dust and carries it deep into the queen's chamber.
  • This destroys the colony safely from the inside out and avoids driving pests into your living spaces.

Aerial Nest Scrape & Removal

For exposed nests hanging in trees or eaves, we chemically neutralize the hive, physically scrape it down, bag it, and correctly dispose of it. Leaving an empty nest on the property can attract other scavenger pests like varied carpet beetles.

Frequently Asked Questions About Wasps

Do I need to be home for the nest removal?
If the nest is on the exterior of the house (eaves, brickwork, or the garden) and we have full access to your yard, you do not need to be home. In fact, keeping everyone indoors and away from the yard during treatment is exactly what we advise.
Absolutely not. Sealing the exterior entry point while the nest is active traps the wasps inside the wall. They will chew through your interior drywall or baseboards and emerge into your living spaces looking for a way out.
Wasp colonies do not survive the deep winter in Canada; only the new queens survive by hiding elsewhere. Wasps will not reuse an old nest. However, if your property has ideal nesting conditions (untreated wood, open eaves, soft soil), new queens may attempt to build new nests nearby in the spring.
You will notice an immediate drop in activity, but it can take 24 to 48 hours for complete colony collapse. This provides time for all foraging wasps to return to the nest, come into contact with the dust, and perish.
