The Raccoon Threat: More Than Just a Mess

Raccoons are heavy animals (often 15–20 lbs) that use their dexterous “hands” to tear through shingles, soffit vents, and roof fans to enter your attic.

Structural Damage

Once inside, they compress and soil insulation, reducing your home's energy efficiency. They also frequently chew on electrical wiring, creating a significant fire hazard.

Health Risks

Raccoons are primary carriers of Rabies in Ontario. Furthermore, their feces often contain *Baylisascaris procyonis* (raccoon roundworm), whose eggs can survive for years and can be inhaled if the feces are disturbed in your attic.

Biohazards

Raccoons establish "latrines" (communal bathrooms) in your attic. The urine and feces can soak through drywall, creating structural rot and toxic indoor air quality.

What is a Raccoon Latrine? A raccoon latrine is a specific, communal site where raccoons repeatedly leave their feces and urine. Inside an attic, a latrine can quickly rot through drywall ceilings, creating a massive biohazard and releasing millions of dangerous roundworm spores into the home’s air supply.
Industry Fast Facts:
  • Toronto boasts one of the highest urban raccoon population densities in the world, estimated at up to 150 raccoons per square kilometre in some neighborhoods.
  • Raccoons possess highly sensitive front paws that become even more dextrous when wet, allowing them to easily manipulate latches, unbolt roof vents, and pry up roofing shingles.
  • The Ontario Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act legally prohibits relocating trapped wildlife more than 1 kilometre from the capture site.

Raccoon Removal Process

Our Humane Raccoon Removal Process

In Ontario, wildlife removal is governed by strict regulations. It is illegal to move a raccoon more than 1km from where it was found. Our “Exclusion” method is the industry gold standard for effectiveness and ethics.

1. High-Angle Attic Inspection

We don't guess. Our technicians climb onto your roof and into your attic to find the primary entry point and determine if there is a mother with a litter of babies.

2. Safeguarding the Babies (Hand Extraction)

From March to July, almost every raccoon in an attic is a mother with babies. We physically enter the attic, safely remove the babies by hand, and place them in a specialized "Reunion Box" outside. The mother will then move them one by one to a secondary den nearby.

3. One-Way Door Installation

We install a custom, spring-loaded one-way door over the main entry hole. This allows the mother raccoon to exit the attic to hunt, but prevents her from re-entering.

4. Professional Reinforcement & Sealing

After we confirm the animals are gone, we remove the door and seal the hole using heavy-gauge galvanized steel mesh or metal flashing. Unlike wood or plastic, raccoons cannot claw or chew through our steel reinforcements.

Frequently Asked Questions About Raccoons

Is it legal to trap and move a raccoon in Ontario?
Under the Ontario Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, you cannot relocate a trapped raccoon more than 1 kilometre from where it was captured. This is to prevent the spread of disease and to ensure the animal can still find food and shelter. Our one-way door method is the preferred legal and humane alternative.
Basic raccoon eviction starts around $350–$600, which covers the inspection, one-way door installation, and basic sealing. However, if there are babies or significant attic restoration/sanitization required, the cost will increase. We provide transparent, on-site quotes.
Not necessarily. While raccoons are nocturnal, mothers often forage during the day if they have a large litter to feed, or they may have been disturbed from their sleeping spot. However, if the raccoon appears disoriented, aggressive, or is foaming at the mouth, stay away and call professional control immediately.
Yes. Raccoons are remarkably strong. They can find a small weak spot in a shingle or a roof vent and use their paws to rip the material away until the hole is large enough for them to squeeze through.
